Falmouth University was established in 1902 as the Falmouth School of Arts and gained university status in 2012. With currently 5,500 students enrolled, its specialty are creative subjects: Arts, Fashion, Media, Game Design, Languages, Theater, and the like, plus a range of business programmes. Most of the study programmes are offered at the undergraduate (Bachelor’s) level, and there are around a dozen specialised Master’s programmes.

One of the many upsides of living in a small, laid-back town is the high level of personal safety. Falmouth is much safer than the UK’s large cities like London, Birmingham or Manchester.
For example, according to UK Crime Stats, the London police records 129 criminal offences per 1,000 residents every year, whereas in Falmouth, it’s barely half that. Theft, especially, is nearly unheard of in Falmouth.
By now it’s clear that Falmouth is a rather small place. And that has one important advantage: You can reach every corner of town, and much of the beautiful surroundings, by foot or bike.
And if it does rain - and it will, this is still England, after all! - you can always rely on the local buses or taxis.

While studying in the UK is never really cheap, Falmouth is not too expensive compared to other places in the country. Shopping for groceries, for example, is 10% cheaper on average than in London, and eating out as much as 20%.
Importantly, it is relatively easy - and affordable! - to find student accommodation in Falmouth. Official student halls are actually owned by the University. More good news: The University guarantees accommodation to all of its first-year undergraduates as well as all international (i.e. non-European) postgraduate students if they apply before the deadlines.
