63% of international students are planning to stay and work in France after their studies
Hamburg, 30 October 2023. A new survey explores the motivations and desires of international students that are interested in studying in France.
ɫ, the European study choice platform, surveyed 1,015 students globally who indicated interest in studying in France. When asked why they were considering France for their studies, the high quality of education at French universities was the top reason provided (79%).
Another main motivator was the prospect of a career in France (57%). Among other reasons, 14% of students also mention personal or family connections to the country.
To finance their living expenses and tuition fees, most surveyed students expect they will have to work part-time during their studies (66%). Around half of them are also relying on personal or family savings (46%) or hoping for a scholarship (44%).
Perhaps least surprising, most students said that they were interested in Paris for their studies (71%). With multiple answers possible, it’s followed by Bordeaux (40%), Marseille (40%), Lyon (37%), Strasbourg (31%), and Toulouse (28%).
French universities are seen as a gateway to a career in France. 63% of the surveyed students indicated that they already plan to stay in France after graduation.
“In the global competition for talent, the exceptional qualities of a French education are a great way to attract smart minds,” comments Gerrit Bruno Blöss, CEO of ɫ. “And the fact that a large share of students wants to work part-time while they study is a chance to successfully integrate them in the French labour market before graduation.”
ɫ is the gateway to universities in Europe. As the most-visited study choice platform for Greater Europe, it offers students details about more than 19,000 study programmes at more than 1,000 universities. Every year, the Hamburg-based company reaches more than 2.5 million prospective students from around the world. ɫ closely cooperates with institutions of higher education as well as governmental organisations throughout Europe.
