Passionate about languages and literature, and looking for a bachelor’s programme in Linguistics and Literary Studies that allows you to specialise in two or more languages? Become a multilingual professional and dive into other languages and cultures!
Looking for an (additional) three-year bachelor’s programme (180 ECTS)? Develop your language proficiency, writing skills and analytic competence and prepare yourself to become a multilingual expert!
Studying languages, literature and linguistics in the stimulating multicultural and multilingual environment of Brussels gives you the opportunity to discover the vast array of possibilities the city has to offer. The international bachelor’s degree in Linguistics and Literary Studies, the first of its kind in Belgium, is designed to prepare you for the globalised labour market where multilingualism, world citizenship and international expertise are becoming increasingly important. Our three-year bachelor’s programme (180 ECTS) offers courses in up to seven languages, from which you can choose to study two up to four languages in the unique multilingual setting of Brussels.
You'll choose two major languages from the six languages we offer (seven including our optional module Chinese) at the start of your bachelor's programme: Dutch, French, English, German, Spanish and Italian. Your three-year study programme consists of 60 ECTS credits on a yearly basis. All courses are taught in the target language. For German, Italian and Spanish, courses start from scratch, and most students will have no or little proficiency in these languages at the start of the programme. For students of Dutch, however, a C1 level according to the Commom European Framework of Reference for Languages is required. Students of English and French need a minimum level of B2. During these three years, you’ll learn the basics of linguistic and literary analysis and will also be introduced to research methodology.
The bachelor in Linguistics and Literary Studies is a new study programme that will be launched for the first time in the academic year of 2022-2023. The programme will grow in the following years, but keep in mind that only courses from the first bachelor year will be available in 2022-2023.
